German physicians, along with a US physician, Dr. Robert J. Schwartzman, reported a case of a rapidly progressing spread of CRPS resulting from a severe wrist injury. Conventional treatment had failed to halt the spread of CRPS from the wrist to the entire right arm. In addition, the pain was unmanageable with all standard therapy. As a last resort, the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit and treated with anesthetic doses of Ketamine in conjunction with Midazolam. The patient emerged from anesthesia completely free of pain as well as associated sinus symptoms of CRPS. The patient has been in complete remission for eight years.
